BEPEC was created in 2008 with the active support and participation of Consulting Engineers South Africa (CESA), the South African Institute of Architects (SAIA), and the Association of South African Quantity Surveyors (ASAQS).
BEPEC use to be known as the International Business Development Section and was created in response to the globalisation of the consulting engineering sector after the first democratic elections in South Africa.
With the inclusion of the Architect and the Quantity Surveying community the Export Council offers a one-stop-shop for international clients who are in the market to employ Built Environment Professionals.
BEPEC is a section 21 non-for-profit company who is in a public private partnership with the South African Department of Trade and Industry, who jointly support export ready firms to export their built environment services internationally.
A key advantage to partnering with South African Built Environment Professionals is that they are able to offer their world –renowned expertise and multi-disciplinary skills at competitive rates.
What also makes them attractive to clients in Africa and beyond is that while the have an excellent understanding of the special needs of the developing world, the utilise first world processes and operate to its standards. SNA Civil & Structural Engineers (Pty) Ltd is an affiliate and member of CESA (Consulting Engineers of South Africa). CESA represents, for its members, a body which promotes their joint interests and, because of its standing, provides quality assurance for clients.
The quality assurance implicit in membership is underwritten by a programme of internal peer reviews, adherence to quality management systems, and the basic tenets of commercial viability, on which CESA members' businesses depend.
Member firms are committed to continuous education, and to the upliftment of their staff and the communities they serve. Many firms have affirmative action programmes, contribute to bursary schemes and assist emerging professionals and construction companies to grow. CESA has recently adopted a Strategy for Empowerment to assist member firms in their endeavours in this regard.
Members carry a required level of professional indemnity insurance, which provides clients with financial recourse in the event of non-performance, insufficient design, failure or neglect caused by the engineer.

SNA is a BEE company with 59.36% black ownership and is a Level 1 contributor with an effective Construction Charter BEE score of 101.28%. In 2005, SNA Civil & Structural Engineers (Pty) Ltd converted to a BEE company. SNA transformed into a BEE company on 1 March 2005. The transformation process completed in the latter part of 2005 on the basis of a Broad Based model for Black Empowerment. This has been carried out by empowering all of its permanent staff and giving them direct Shareholding in the Company.
